Hi all,

this article is meant as a general info for classic American car parts and whatever else might be needed in this relation that are available in Ireland.

I will keep updating this whenever someone tells me something new. Here's what I have found so far with the help of others and it would be a shame to lose this info.

I will reference companies but I want to be clear on this that this is in no way meant as advertising. This is purely to try to help each other out.

GAScc First AGM, March 2009

 

A great turn out was seen in The Viaduct Inn for GAScc’s first AGM which was held on Friday 27th March. A total of 30 people were there to see the club’s Chairman John McCarthy open the meeting. John let everyone know that even though AGM’s are mostly very formal affairs, ours will be just like all the meetings we had during the previous year, relaxed and easy going. It was agreed that this “feature” of our get togethers is one of the reasons why our membership has been growing throughout the year.

There is something about waking up on the morning of the first vintage run of the season, while you open the curtains and hold your breath hoping for a dry bright sky secretly praying for a nice day so you can drive your American Muscle car in a safe and enjoyable environment.

And that’s exactly what the Ballygarvan vintage Club got on the 22nd of this March 2009. After getting the niceties of Mothers Day out of the way the covers were removed from the cars and off we headed to the picturesque village of Ballygarvan just outside Cork city. The event was held in aid of a local man Denis McCarthy who got injured in a car accident nearly 12 months earlier and is now confined to a wheel chair and all funds raised on the day were donated to his rehabilitation.

Anyone who knows anything about American cars knows that one of the most loved and popular American classics must be the Chevrolet Corvette. This two-seater Corvette first arrived on the scene in 1953 to compete with the arrival of more and more European models into the states such as MGs and Triumphs. Style was a major factor for the Corvette for the engine was very underpowered with a 3.8litre six cylinder with just 150bhp. But V8s were soon to be introduced and engines were beefed up to 5.4 litres with 360 BHP and from there on the Corvette would go from strength to strength such was its success that Chevy still produce the Corvette today in the shape of the Z6 and the zr1
